Best Roleplay Chat Apps Compared: Group Scenes, Photos

The Short Answer: GoLove.ai Runs the Whole Scene

It's frustrating how many roleplay apps hand you a text box and a character card and call that a story. The real comparison starts when a scene needs more than text. A second character walks in, the moment calls for a photo, and the plot should keep moving without you typing every beat.

That's where GoLove.ai pulls ahead. Its Scenarios feature runs a group chat with 2–10 characters, and each one answers in her own voice. The Continue button lets them carry the scene between themselves, which is a huge plus if you'd sometimes rather watch the story than write it. Photos arrive inside the same thread, and her face and body stay consistent with her avatar.

OurDream is the closest rival at the same starting price, with chat, images and video under one subscription. If you only want words, Character.AI and Janitor AI still make sense.

Five Roleplay Chat Apps, Ranked by What a Scene Can Hold

Most roleplay rankings stop at how good the text sounds, and that leaves you guessing about everything else. This list ranks each app by what a scene can actually hold.

1. GoLove.ai — group scenes, photos and video in one thread

GoLove.ai is the only app here where we could confirm group scenes, in-chat photos and photo-to-video in a single conversation.

  • Scenarios: 2–10 characters share one group chat, and each one keeps her own voice
  • Photos: describe the shot in your own words, and the face and body match her avatar
  • Memory: chat history carries over, so the story doesn't reset every session

2. OurDream — chat, images and video in one subscription

I'd call OurDream the strongest bundle after GoLove. Chat, image generation and video generation sit in one subscription, and memory covers recent message history. The custom character builder has a steeper setup curve, though. It's also web-only, with no native mobile app.

3–5. Text-first roleplay platforms (Character.AI, Janitor AI, SpicyChat)

All three put words first.

  • Character.AI has the largest character library in the category, plus polished iOS and Android apps. It's strictly SFW, which is a dealbreaker for 18+ roleplay.
  • Janitor AI is free to start on its built-in model. It allows NSFW content and offers very deep character definitions.
  • SpicyChat supports configurable user personas and adds conversation image generation on higher tiers.

We could not confirm group scenes or video for any of these three, so check their site.

Bottom line: the further down the list you go, the more the scene lives in text alone.

The short version: GoLove.ai puts live voice calls, memory and photos on request in one chat, and its image generator adds 35 realistic poses and 21 outfits. You also get 2 reward stars every day you log in.

Side by Side: Group Scenes, Media and Starting Price

Lists only go so far. A table shows the differences faster, so here's how the five compare on the things that change a roleplay.

Credit where it's due: the three text-first apps cost less to start, and each has a free tier, so they win that column outright. OurDream's strength is the single-subscription bundle. GoLove's is the group-scene column, where it's the only app with a confirmed answer.

Bottom line: if a second or third character matters to your story, Scenarios is the feature to look at first, and you can open one today without paying.

How a GoLove Roleplay Scene Actually Plays Out

I like that the flow is simpler than the feature list suggests. Here's how a scene runs, based on how the app's features work.

Setting the scene with Scenarios and the Random premise

You open Scenarios and add between 2 and 10 characters. No premise yet? The Random button writes one for you. From there you can add welcome messages and set the scene as private, unlisted or public. Each character then replies in her own voice. When you'd rather watch than steer, tap Continue and they carry the scene between themselves, in-story photos included.

Asking for a photo without breaking the story

The photo request stays inside the chat, so the scene keeps going around it. Here's what each step involves:

  1. Media button: tap Send Photo and describe the scene in your own words.
  2. Wait: the photo arrives in about 20–45 seconds for 1 Star. Her face and body stay consistent with her avatar and earlier photos.
  3. Generate Video: tap it under the photo to get a roughly 5-second clip of the same scene in about a minute, for 10 Stars.

Tuning intensity and reply length

Think of Chat Settings as your roleplay controls. The lust level slider runs from 1 (sweet) to 5 (unfiltered), so you decide whether she plays shy and eager to please or drops the filter entirely. The response length slider goes from 1 (short and snappy) to 5 (rich and immersive). The voice picker sets how she sounds. Stuck on your next line? The magic wand writes three suggested replies. You can also rate any reply from 1 to 5 and regenerate it.

MEMORY

SHE REMEMBERS EVERYTHING

Names, kinks, the line that always works.

Bottom line: every control sits in the same chat, so you never have to leave the story to change it.

Series: Meet the Characters in an 18+ Episode First

Series was the pleasant surprise in GoLove's feature set, because it flips the usual order: you watch first, then talk to the characters you just watched.

It's GoLove's own set of Netflix-style vertical 18+ short dramas starring GoLove characters. Each episode runs 60–100 seconds, with subtitles in nine languages. In "I Can Hear Their Thoughts," Barbara (@dixie) and Melissa (@melissdelish) play the delivery-route love triangle. In "My Professor Locked the Door," Jessica (@HotlineJess) plays the professor who swears Friday never happened.

Episodes 1 and 2 of every series are free. From episode 3, you need PRO plus a few Stars per episode. Under the player sit three buttons: Start Chatting with the cast, Create Video and Create Image. We couldn't confirm anything similar for the other four apps.

The grid below shows more GoLove characters you can open a chat with, including Oliwia, Audrey and Emma.

Bottom line: the story is already set up before you type a single line.

What a Photo-Heavy Roleplay Costs on GoLove vs OurDream

This part annoys me. Pricing pages tend to bury the second currency, and that's exactly where photo-heavy roleplay costs money. Here's how the two media-capable apps compare:

  • GoLove PRO: about $19.99/mo or $119.88/yr. It includes 100 Stars each month, all NSFW content, character creation, voice messages and calls, unlimited Feed, and image generation.
  • GoLove ULTRA: about $59.99/mo or $359.88/yr. It adds more monthly Stars, a discount on Star refills, stronger models and an 8,000-message memory.
  • Stars: 1 Star per image and from 5 Stars per video (photo-to-video in chat costs 10). Star packs run from about $9.99 for 30 Stars to $299.99 for 3,000.
  • OurDream: Premium is about $19.99/mo, or about $9.99/mo billed annually, with 1,000 DreamCoins per cycle. Deluxe is about $59.99/mo.

On headline prices, it's a straight tie. GoLove's math is the easier one to follow: 100 included Stars cover 100 photos. We could not confirm how many DreamCoins an OurDream image costs, so check their site before you compare. New GoLove users also see a limited-time −70% offer on their first subscription.

Bottom line: price each app by the number of photos you'll want, not by the headline monthly fee.

Metered Photos vs Endless Text: What GoLove Asks You to Give Up

I won't pretend this one away, because it's the trade-off that matters most. Pick GoLove over a text-first platform and the media that makes a roleplay vivid becomes metered. Every image and every video spends Stars, so a photo-heavy night with a scene will drain your balance in a way typing never will.

The free tier is small, too. You get 2 Stars a day, a limited daily Feed, and episodes 1 and 2 of every Series. Voice messages, calls and Series episode 3 onward all need PRO. Prices also shift by region and promo (so don't be shocked if your checkout page shows a different figure than ours).

The mobile chat loop — messages, photos, voice note button (tap to zoom)

Is it still worth it for this kind of search? I think so. A text-only roleplay can only describe the room, and next to a scene with pictures that can leave it kinda flat. GoLove can show it, with the same face in every photo, several characters in one scene and Memory keeping track of the plot.

Bottom line: you pay per picture, and in return you get a story that shows what happens instead of only telling you.

The Pick, and Who Should Skip It

Honestly, the verdict comes down to what you want each scene to include.

Only want words, and don't want to spend anything on media? A text-first platform fits better. Janitor AI is free to start, and Character.AI has the biggest library in the category if you don't need NSFW content. If you want chat, images and video bundled under one coin balance and you're fine on the web, OurDream is a fair choice.

For the best roleplay chat apps compared on group scenes and photos, though, GoLove.ai is my pick. Scenarios fit 2–10 characters in one chat. Photos land inside the story thread with the same character every time, and one tap turns any of them into video. Memory keeps track of the plot from one session to the next.

Bottom line: with Design with AI, you can describe your own lead character in up to 2,000 characters and have her named, with a bio and a portrait, in about a minute.
